~The Marketplace~

Children shouting, mothers scold faces here are young and old.
Smells of fruit and fresh baked bread, linen pillows to rest your head.
poor ones come to find things cheap, servants shop as masters sleep.
Still you don't see many frowns. How can there be? It's a fest without clowns.
but there's fire-eaters, jugglers, gossipers galore.
Normal folks carry things back from the store.
And as the sun sets homeward bound with water, food or clothes-
then the mice see people gone and crawl out of their holes.
The pretty day has ended the finale, a rat's dinner
But through the midst of children's shouts you see one who looks thinner.
And now this hungry boy goes home. Missing sounds of others.
It's gotten lonely in the night since he lost his mother.....
