Chapter 1: Struggle
Author's Notes:

Copyright: I don’t own Aladdin… of course, many people think I should because of all the merchandise I own. I will try my very best not to harm the characters, as I always try to use them with love.

Author’s Note: I guess you could call this my “re-entry” into Aladdin fan fiction. It’s been quite a long time (two years to be exact) since I last ventured here. But, I’m back… I know, many of you are screaming in horror right now, hehe.
This is a rewrite of the poem many of you may have already read. It takes an in-depth look at the final showdown between Iago and Jafar in RoJ. I wrote it as a freshman in high school three years ago and recently found that I was dissatisfied with it but thought it still had potential. This is what I’ve managed to do with it. I admit, it’s a bit darker. Let me know if you like this version or the older one better.

Struggle

My past is a secret no one can know
Betrayal, disgrace; it’s all I’ve been shown
My heart has become hard
As the years have passed by
For all that was lost
On the day it all died

I squeeze my eyes shut
To forget what I’ve seen
But, it’s there just as always
In its black and white gleam

Behind it, bright splashes
In patches red, purple, and blue
I’m terrified;
I’m not like you

Hatred of myself
And all I have done
My corruption is mine
I’m nothing but what I’ve become

And, something’s screaming that the truth isn’t it me
Is there nothing inside to set myself free?
There’s got to be more than what I have now
If I fly away soon, could I escape this somehow?

I make a choice
Unsure of just why
But there’s just nothing to lose if I were to die
So, I throw myself at the mercy of life
Not wanting, nor daring to ever think twice
Black, white the colors of the sun
With all that I’ve seen
How could I think that I’ve won?

Of all the things I knew you would take
I never thought you’d take this from me
But, all along you knew I’d break
How your revenge has ravaged me
