Chapter 1: Chapter 1

"Okay, Dad, the ball will be starting in two hours. You have to get ready."

"Take it easy, son. I already know what I'm going to wear."

"Are you ready to dance allot."

Cassim didn't answer.

"Dad, did you hear me?"

"Yeah I heard you."

"Then answer me please."

"Aladdin..."

Cassim paused and sighed.

"This is kind of embarrassing for me, but, I don't know how to dance."

Aladdin looked at his father.

"You don't?"

"Nope."

"Mom never taught you?"

"Aladdin, your mother didn't know how to dnace either."

"Wow."

"I just know I'm going to make a fool of myself tonight."

"We've got two hours. Diana and I will teach you how to dance."

"Aladdin, that's easier said than done. Just last night when Diana and I went out we to that new, fancy restraunt. There was a time to dance before you ordered your food. Of course Diana pulled me up to dance."

"I don't think this is going to be good is it?"

"No. First I stepped on her foot, then I tripped and almost knocked her and the couple in front of us over, and then I stepped on her dress."

"Ohh. That's pretty bad."

"What I'm saying is: I've got two left feet."

Aladdin couldn't help but smile a little.

"We can at least try."

Cassim sighed.

"Okay. Fine."

Chapter 2: The Ball

When the ball arrived Cassim was so nervous he had to keep his hands under his cape because they were so sweaty!

When everyone else was dancing he stood off to the side.

Then Jasmine came up, took his hand, and pulled towards the dance floor!

"Dance with me, Cassim."

"No thanks, Jasmine."

Jasmine still pulled him closer to the dance floor.

"Jasmine, I really don't want to dance."

She stilled pulled him closer.

"Jasmine, no, please."

Now there was no point in trying for they were on the dance floor.

To make matters worse, everyone else stopped dancing to watch.

Cassim could only hope his hands wouldn't start sweating again.

He gulped quietly as the music for the waltz played.

They got in postion and started to dance.

Aladdin and Diana watched hoping and praying he wouldn't mess up.

Cassim glanced nervously at his feet.

"Cassim, don't look at your feet."

He lifted his gaze.

As the dance began to get a little faster Cassim became more nervous. He could feel sweat slowly trickling down the back of his neck!

Then he did one of the things he feared: he stepped on Jasmine's foot!

"Sorry, Jas."

"It's okay."

A little while later he stepped on her dress but quickly moved his foot back into place!

He felt the heat of blush rising in his face!

"Are you blushing?"

Cassim gave a nervous chuckle.

"I guess I am."

He turned his head away for a moment, cleared his throat, and looked back at Jasmine.

After a little while Jasmine moved a little closer nd rested her head on Cassim's chest!

Aladdin and Doana looked at each other.

"Uh oh. This isn't going to turn out well."

Just a he, Aladdin, and Diana feared, Cassim tripped!

This time he was unable to regain his balance on the marble floor of the throne room. He hit one of the refreshment tables! The bowl of wine fell o right on his head, dumping the wine all over him and the floor!

The guest chuckled.

Cassim got up took one step, slipped on the wine covered floor, and hit one of the desert tables!

A cake hit him followed by a cheery pie, a blueberry pine, and apple pie!

The guests were laughing normally.

Cassim turned around only to have that be a big mistake!

The strawberry pie hit him right in the face!

The guests were now roaring with laughter!

Wet from the wine, his hair and clothed covered with the cake, cherry filling, blueberry filling, and apple filling, and his face covered in the strawberry filling, Cassim ran out of the throne room, completely humiliated!

Jasmine went after him.

She found him in his room wiping off his clothes anf face, and getting as ,uch filling out of his hair as he could without washing it.

"Cassim?"

"I'm not in the mood to talk right now, Jasmine."

"Cassim,..."

"Just leave me alone!" Cassim snapped.

Chapter 3: Chapter 3

"Cassim, what's wrong?"

"What do you think?! I just made a complete idiot of myself! I'm covered in wine, four different pie fillings, three of which I may never get out of my hair completely, and cake! It seems kind of obvious what's wrong!"

"You're an agile man, what happened?"

"Yeah, agile. I'm agile, but I'm not graceful!"

"What's your point?"

"I can't dance! That's why I didn't want to dance with you!"

"I didn't know."

"It's too late now."

Cassim sat down in front of his mirrior and began to pull more of the pie fillings from his hair.

"I'm gonna have to wash my hair like ten times!"

"No you won't."

"What do you mean?"

"I'll be right back."

Jasmine came back a few minutes later with a bottle.

"What's in the bottle?"

"My best perfume."

"Jasmine!" Cassim yelled as he jumped up.

"Cassim, just trust me. Aladdin got pie filling in his hair before, too. The perfume got it all to come right out. So just sit down and let me help you."

"I'm not going to let you put perfume in my hair."

"Sit down!"

Cassim sat down quickly!

"Trust me, Cassim."

Within a few minutes Cassim's hair was the way it had been when he went down to the ball!

"Change your clothes and lets go back down."

"I'm not going back down. Not after what happened."

"Cassim, come on."

Cassim heard a soft whimper behind him.

"You're doing the puppy-dog poupt aren't you?"

"No."

Cassim covered his eyes, turned around, lifted his hand, and opened his eyes.

Jasmine was doing the puppy-dog poupt!

"Oh! You got me! Okay. Give me fve minutes."

Jasmine giggled.

"Works every time."

"I've got to learn to resist that. I don't know how Aladdin and the others do it."

Cassim changed his clothes, and they went back down.

Chapter 4: Chapter 4

Days later Cassim had Aladdin come into his study. He locked the door and sat back down at his desk. Aladdin sat across from him.

"Dad, what's going on?"

"What you know about my past as the King of Thieves is nothing."

"Huh?"

"Life with the Forty Thieves was a living nightmare, but I'd never wake up. Every moment with them was almost like being tormented by demons."

"Wow."

"I could never put my guard down. If I ever did I wouldn't be here."

Aladdin couldn't help but gulp.

"I couldn't trust any of them. I was always in danger. My dreams were haunted by horrible nightmares of being tortured and, or killed by the Forty Thieves. On raids I never knew what they were going to do."

Cassim paused, and Aladdin didn't prod him to go on.

"The things I saw...ould probably even scar Rasoul for life."

Aladdin's eyes widened.

"Life with the Forty Thieves left me a scared man. I'll never forget those horrible images. Even now they haunt me in my dreams. They'll haunt me 'til I die."

"Dad, you're the toughest person I've ever seen."

"That's only becuase I spent twenty years witnessing the most horrible things you could ever imagine!"

Aladdin said nothing.

"Aladdin, the only reason I can stand to see blood and gore is becuase that's what I saw quite often for those horrible twenty years of my life. I saw bodies twited in ways thought not to be possible."

Aladdin's eyes widened again.

"I saw the most horrible things ever imagined. I also saw things so horrible you couldn't imagine them unless I told you what they looked like."

"Whoa."

"I saw a man get stabbed all over his body so he bled to death, I saw Sa'luk slash someone's eyes, I saw several men beaten to death, and I even saw Sa'luk literally rip someone's arm off!"

Aladdin gave a low whistle.

"I also experienced things so horrible you couldn't imagine them unless I told you what it was like."

A worried look ame to Aladdin's face.

"Don't worry. I'm fine now, in a matter of speaking at least."

Cassim cleared his throat before continuing.

"It truly is a miracle I'm still alive today."

He paused for a brief moment.

"You and everyone else may not be able to notice it, but when I walk I have a very slight limp."

"Why's that?"

"One day, during a raid something exploded in the building we were in, and it started to collapse. We all ran to get out, but a huge peice of debris fell and landed on my left leg. I couldn't get my leg free. Luckily, my hood and veil had fallen down so when some people of the town managed to dig me out, they didn't know I was the King of Thieves. My left leg had been shattered from all the weight put on it all at once. Once it healed the Forty Thieves got a big surprise when I arrived back at the layer."

Aladdin couldn't help but smile.

Father and son were in Cassim's study for hours as Cassim poured his heart out to Aladdin as he never done to anyone before. What else was said in his study, only Cassim and Aladdin knew.

What Cassim told Aladdin never left his study.
