A sequel, of sorts, to Hot Spell and The Bride of Mozenrath

Dedicated to the Kind Person who emailed me and whose letter I so careless lost. Mea Culpa

Princess Jasmine was worried. Some of her father's courtiers
had tried to assassinate him. It was only luck that Carpet had
overheard the plot and had been able to warn the Sultan.

On top of that, Aladdin was ill. Dr. Latif had thought it
only sand fever at first, but mere sand fever shouldn't last this
long.

Jasmine couldn't concentrate. So she wandered around her room
picking things up at random. She looked for the portrait she had
done of Aladdin and couldn't find it. She tried to remember the
last time she'd seen it. When she did, she had a panic attack and
went running for Genie.

"You're sure?" Genie asked her. For once he was too serious
to keep changing forms.

"Absolutely," Jasmine said. "The last time I saw it was in
Mozenrath's Citadel."

Genie scowled. "If Mozen-Brat-Worst has the picture, he could
be using it to make Al sick."

"So I've got to go get it,"Jasmine decided.

"Not alone!" Genie declared.

"I won't be alone, but *you* have to stay here to keep an eye
on Aladdin,"Jasmine said. "If Mozenrath tries something, or if one
of the other villains attacks, you're the one who can protect him
the best."

Genie sighed but didn't argue. "Very well, but I have a few
little parlor tricks that you might find helpful."

They had to move fast. Mozenrath had magic detectors all over
the Land of the Black Sand. Carpet will have set them all off by
now. They snuck through the halls of the Citadel, which were still
pink after Mozenrath's altercation with the water elemental known
as Saleen.

The pocket compass that Genie gave her lead Jasmine right to
where Mozenrath had Aladdin's portrait. It was being held in a web
of red lights, surrounded, no doubt, by a plethora of traps and
alarms. Those didn't worry her, she had a secret weapon for *just*
such a contingency.

"Well, if it isn't my sweet little former house maid,"
sneered a too familiar voice. "What's the matter, Little Princess,
did you loose something? Like your little street rat?"

Jasmine glared at him. "I came for my property, Mozenrath.
Give it back."

Mozenrath smirked. "Give it back? Just when I have achieved
my aims? Soon your precious Aladdin will be dead, and everyone
will know that *I* killed him!"

"Nobody will know you had anything to do with it," Jasmine
snorted contemptuously. "As far everyone knows, Aladdin's disease
is natural. However, everyone does know that you never beat him!
And that's how it's going to stay."

Mozenrath was indignant. "You'd lie? You're a *PRINCESS*!"

"I'm also a politician's daughter."

Mozenrath snarled. "That still doesn't tell me why I should
give you the portrait."

Jasmine shrugged. "You made Aladdin sick. That should be
revenge enough for now. Besides, if you give me back the portrait,
I'll get Genie to unpink your Citadel for you."

Mozenrath gaped, then the reminder of how Aladdin had tricked
him with a false bride touched off a temper tantrum. "I have a
better idea! I'll FRY your street rat!" he turned to hurl a
fireball at Aladdin's portrait.

It was gone.

Jasmine had stalled Mozenrath for several minutes. More than
enough time for her Secret Weapon, also known as Abu, to get his
thieving little paws on Aladdin's portrait.

"You little..." Mozenrath raged. He wheeled around to hurl the
fireball at Jasmine, only to get a face full of Genie's other
secret weapon…

A water balloon filled with pink paint.

The shock caused him to drop his fireball behind him. By the time the
fireball hit the ground, Carpet, Jasmine and Abu were well clear
of the Citadel. They didn't hear the explosion or Mozenrath's howl
of anguish.

However, thanks to Genie's magic, they did find out that
Aladdin was on his feet many weeks before Mozenrath was able to
sit down.
