Well, when two people love each other very much, or in Cassim's case, is really drunk.... Kidding! :D If you mean the story of Aladdin, it's a tale from the book "The Arabian Nights" or "A 1001 Arabian Nights." The story itself is usually called "The wonderful lamp" or "Aladdin". It's one of the most popular stories from the book along with the legends of Sinbad the sailor and Ali Baba and the 40 thieves. Of course, Disney put their own twist on it, so the original and Disney versions are different, but alike.
It happens in China, but I don't think it was written in China. I think if it were the characters would have Chinese names as opposed to Arabic ones.
Hmmm that's interesting. Remember during that time boundaries of countries were different from today. Maybe parts of China probably belong to Arabia or vice versa.
Sir Richard Burton was a orientalist. He wrote the book 1001 Arabian Nights or he translated 1001 Arabian Nights. Probably originated from the southwest side of Country where the desert and orient intertwine with each other. It's either that or he changed the names so his readers can understand or how to prenunciate the easily.
Aladdin's last name was Hight.

She is right and they have more versions to the Aladdin story. I do remember that NBC special for 1001 Arabian Nights. Jason Scott Lee as Aladdin.

They've taken old fairy tales and revolutionized the way people see them.
They've added more detail and gave other characters instead of the protaganists more of a personality. They've added scenes... and turned it more lovey-dovey. There are a few that aren't that butchered, like Snow White... but then you have ones like Aladdin which they took the name pretty much... and the ONE genie... and that's it.
I told you, I'm not complaining about it, I'm just stating that it's the truth. Originality is there, but it is only building on somebody's else's foundation.

Har har. Emperor's New Groove was the most butchered of them all. ^_~ It was said in... Disney Adventures, I believe, that the original idea was to make a movie out of the Emperor's New Clothes.
I'd have to see this as evidence... I really would because there is no link between the stories except for the first two words in the title.
I can't say Emperor's New Groove is butchered seeing how there is nothing to prove to me that it is linked to another fairy tale.

Emperor's New Groove was hilarious! Especially with the voice talents of John Goodman and David Spade... they were awesome.
I loved the villianess... one of the best so far.

We look at Disney for their originality, when they don't really have a original movie in their animated collection.
I was in the dollar store one day and saw these little princess dolls. All knock offs of the Disney princesses by far. It's a rare occassion when you don't see "Cinderella" in a big blue ball gown, or "Snow White" with a yellow skirt and blue dress shirt. They've set a certain standard with fairy tales that everyone looks up to.
That is so true!
I LOVE the Emperor's New Groove. I think it's hilarious and I can't get enough of it. I seriously can't understand why anyone would dislike it but to each his own. I never really got what all the hype was about with Lilo and Stitch, though (another Disney original, I think). Sorry for getting way off topic here.
So, yeah, Aladdin.
I think the Disney version was originally supposed to be set in Baghdad but they changed it to Agrabah. I could be wrong though.

They should make their own more often. Take the Emperor's New Groove for example. Now that was a beastly movie.

I think it was more or less the title that was unoriginal. The Emperor's New Clothes was about an emperor (from a European country) who got tricked into parading into town with no clothes on.
The Emperor's New Groove is about a selfish emperor who gets turned into a llama and gets lost in the middle of nowhere with a peasant.
But hey, you could be right.
Actually, it was originated from a planned version of "The Prince and the Pauper". However, the production fell through and "The Emperor's New Groove" was the result of them salvaging what was left.

In some versions I've heard, "Agrabah" was in Baghdad. But most were just some fantastic Arabian place.
Though the 1001 nights were told in the Samarkand area.

I look at them for their originality in their adaptations of fairy tales because that's what they do, lol. They've taken old fairy tales and revolutionized the way people see them.

I heard it was originally Chinese, although it is also one of the 1001 Arabian Nights if you've ever read any of them.
It was set in China, but I think I heard that it was an Egyptian story...
Anyway, if you mean where is Agrabah supposed to be, it's not supposed to be any particular country. I like to compare it to all the old Disney fairy tales weren't really set in a particular country, except that it's "fantasy Arabia" instead of "fantasy Europe".

I can't say I'm a big fan of it, but yes, it was amusing. It's worth at least one watch, so you can enjoy the humor that is David Spade Does Disney.
