Chapter 1: Prologue

Author's Notes: This is my first Aladdin fanfic, so please R&R!

Cassim sat in a patched arm chair in front of a shabby, crackling fire with the most dejected look on his face that he had worn in the past few weeks. Just two weeks ago he had met his son, Aladdin, and he was almost positive that he would give up his life as a thief. Yes, Cassim had been the King of the Forty Thieves. He had left his wife and son long ago to search for a career to support his family and had befriended a group of scraggly thieves. Meanwhile, Aladdin had fallen in love with the beautiful Princess Jasmine of Agrabah and found out that his father was still alive. Aladdin had found Cassim and helped his father find the ultimate treasure, the Hand of Midas, which could turn anything it touches into gold. Although he had spent his life searching for the treasure, Cassim gave it up and returned to Agrabah to see his son’s wedding.
“Why did I even try?” he asked himself sadly. “I gave it up anyway, and I am still convicted a thief.” He sighed. “I can’t even see my own son.”
Just then, Iago, his parrot, flew distractedly into the room with a scroll in his beak. “Cassim!” he cried. “Cass—AHHHHHHHHHH!” He crashed into the side of the armchair.
For the first time in days, Cassim laughed. “Yes, my little turkey?” he asked with a sly grin as he helped Iago up.
Iago flew to the arm of the chair. “Somebody left a scroll for you. It’s from Aladdin!”
“Aladdin!” Cassim snatched the scroll from Iago’s beak and read it.

Dear Dad,
Jasmine and I are still on our honeymoon in Paris, but we are leaving tomorrow. I told the postman to leave the letter outside of the cave. I figured that Iago would find it when he goes out to hunt at night. I wanted to say hi and that I miss you so much! I’m not exactly excited to go back to Agrabah tomorrow, because Sultan has to go over all of that paperwork with me about becoming Sultan. On our first anniversary, I will be officially crowned as Sultan. Will you promise to write?

Aladdin

Cassim chuckled appreciatively as he moved the letter from his son aside and a small note fell out from it. He read this one too.

Dear Cassim,
Aladdin told me that he was writing to you, and I told him to include this note from me in it. I wanted to make sure that you are all right and remind you that you can always come back to the palace if you need anything. I didn’t let Aladdin see this, but Genie and I are planning Aladdin’s surprise twenty-second birthday party. Do you have any chance of coming back to Agrabah?

Love,
Jasmine

“Aladdin’s birthday!” Cassim exclaimed suddenly jumping from the chair knocking Iago off of the arm. “Iago, I totally forgot!”
“You’d forget even more if you’ve been knocked on your head like I have!” Iago grunted rubbing his head, but Cassim did not listen. He started pacing around the room.
“What do boys Aladdin’s age like?” he wondered looking through all of his possessions. “No, no, there are no hand-me-downs that I can give to him!”
“Cassim, are you crazy?” Iago asked fluttering on his shoulder. “Aladdin’s not a boy anymore! He’s a prince.”
Cassim stopped abruptly. “Do you think that will make a difference?” he wanted to know with a concerned expression.
“Of course it will, he’s royalty now,” Iago replied. “Hand-me-downs won’t suit him any-more, I can tell you that.”
Cassim plopped back into the chair with his face buried in his hands. “I don’t know, Iago,” he sighed heavily. “I just don’t know.”

Chapter 2: Chapter 1-Home Sweet Home

Author's Notes: The first chapter is not that interesting, but the story will get better as I go on.

Aladdin and his new wife Jasmine were flying leisurely on their magic carpet. After a re-laxing honeymoon in Paris and a picnic lunch in Egypt, the newlyweds were flying back to their home in Agrabah. Aladdin, who was still hungry, tried to sneak food out of the picnic basket while Jasmine was not looking. He had almost touched the handle when a hand slapped his own out of the way.
“I told you to eat enough when we were in Egypt!” Jasmine scolded with firing eyes and a playful smile.
“Okay, okay, I’m sorry,” Aladdin chortled quickly. “Now, if you can just let me have the rest of my sandwich–”
“No flying on the carpet,” Jasmine interrupted.
“But Jasmine, I’m so hungry!” Aladdin complained. “Can’t we just make an exception if I just ate a cracker?”
Jasmine sighed with a smile. “Carpet, can you land here please?”

*****
Sultan was pacing the front corridor of the palace. “Where are they? Where could they be?” he wondered throwing his arms in the air.
Genie sidled into the hallway quietly as the Sultan continued pacing. “Pardon me, your highness, but where could who be?” he asked politely.
“Aladdin and Jasmine!” Sultan replied in an exasperated voice. “You’d think they’d be back by now! Jasmine told me two o’clock sharp, and it is now two minutes after!”
Rasoul stalked into the room behind Genie. “Newly weds,” he groaned as he patted his beloved sword. “All they care about is each other.”
Sultan’s eyes widened in surprise. “Really?” he gasped.
“Oh, don’t listen to him, Sultan,” Genie chuckled softly putting his arm around the plump king. “Al and Jas probably took a few extra minutes to enjoy the sights. In the meantime, why don’t you sit down?” He quickly conjured a comfortable arm chair, and Sultan sat right down.
“I just cannot believe that Jasmine is married already!” Sultan exclaimed resting his feet on a foot rest that Genie provided for him. “With all of that havoc over Jafar and Cassim, you’d think that day would never come!”
“As soon as that King of Thieves returns, I’ll give him a rather warm welcome,” grunted Rasoul from the corner of the room.
“I’m sorry to break up this conversation, but carpet at 2:05!” Genie called with his hands cupped around his mouth. He and Sultan quickly hurried to open the doors, and the carpet flew right in carrying the newest married couple in Agrabah, Aladdin and Jasmine.
“Dearest!” Sultan exclaimed helping his daughter off of the carpet and throwing his plump body onto hers.
“Hello, Father!” Jasmine replied happily hugging her father in return.
“Welcome home, Princess Jasmine,” Rasoul greeted stepping forward to take Jasmine’s hand.
“It’s good to be home,” Jasmine smiled as she looked around the room. “Nope, nothing has changed a bit, just how I like it!”
Genie lifted Aladdin off of the carpet and pulled him into a tight embrace. “Good to see you again, buddy!” he exclaimed.
“Thanks, Genie!” Aladdin replied brightly grabbing his suitcase from carpet. “Where are Abu and Rajah?”
“They’re upstairs,” Genie answered pulling Aladdin away from Jasmine, Sultan, and Rasoul. He lowered his voice to a whisper. “Have you heard from Cassim lately?” he wanted to know.
“Not yet,” Aladdin replied worriedly. “I wrote to him a few days ago, but I haven’t heard back. What if the letter fell into the wrong hands? What if somebody caught him?”
“Al, Cassim will be fine,” Genie assured him. He clapped his hands and led Aladdin over to the rest of the family. “Well, Al and Jas, I have a belated wedding gift for you!”
Aladdin and Jasmine exchanged surprised glances. “Genie, you didn’t have to–” Jasmine started, but Genie interrupted.
“Say no more, we have been working on it for days!” he exclaimed taking the newly weds’ hands. “Come upstairs and see!”
Genie led Jasmine and Aladdin up the stairs followed by Sultan and Carpet. They stopped in front of the door leading to Jasmine’s bedroom. “We’ve been remodeling,” Genie explained. “If you don’t like it–”
“I’m sure it will be wonderful,” Jasmine sighed gripping Aladdin’s forearm lovingly with a smile on her face.
“All right, love birds, close your eyes!” Genie teased. After Aladdin and Jasmine covered their eyes, Genie pushed open the door.
“Can we open them now, Genie?” Aladdin wanted to know as Genie led them into the room.
Genie laughed softly in excitement. “Go ahead!” he whispered happily stepping back from the room.
Aladdin and Jasmine were lost for words. With wide eyes, they explored their new bedroom. There was brand new furniture in the deepest crimson that resembled the color of the rose on top of cream colored carpets. Aladdin quickly jumped on their new double bed while Jasmine wondered to a small room that was attached to their bedroom which turned out to be a dressing room. Off to the side of the room, Rajah was snoozing leisurely next to Abu, who woke with a start.
“Abu!” Aladdin shouted jovially. His best friend ran into his arms as Jasmine strolled to her tiger and started to wake her.
“Do you like it?” Genie asked shyly from the side of the room with his hands behind his back as he shuffled his feet.
“I love it!” the couple exclaimed together.
Jasmine ran over to Genie and kissed his cheek. “Thank you so much Genie,” she whis-pered softly. “It’s a dream come true.”
“Just fit for a princess,” Aladdin added with a smirk.
“And fit for a prince too, otherwise the whole room would be pink!” Jasmine reminded him. Immediately they started to laugh.
“They really are happy, aren’t they?” Sultan asked the Genie as tears glistened in his eyes. He quickly pulled out a handkerchief and blew his nose rather loudly.
“Couldn’t see anybody happier,” Genie agreed watching as the couple pulled each other in a passionate kiss. “Why don’t we leave them alone?” Aladdin and Jasmine were so entranced that they did not notice that they were the only two people in the room.
