I was just listening/looking over the lyrics for the cut song "Call Me a Princess," the song supposed to be sung by Princess Jasmine in an earlier version of the film.

That song would have made me look down on Princess Jasmine so bad! It's horrible... it would have changed her whole appearance, and made people hate her!

I'm glad they kept Jasmine they way she is, instead of being a spoiled brat... how would Aladdin fall in love with someone like that?? Plus, if that was the way she really felt, she would have never left the palace, never met Aladdin... and we wouldn't have a story at all.

I would have enjoyed a solo song by Jasmine though... just NOTHING like that.

As far as I know, Call Me A Princess was never supposed to be in the movie... I think it was just for fun. And yeah, a solo for Jasmine would have been great.

Well, it is part of the "cut lyrics", so I'm guessing it was a proposed lyric... and who knows what else they were planning to be in the first version of the movie.

My guess is that it was pushed out of the way right after it was presented. None of the Disney Princesses/Heroines act like that... why would they want their "exotic arabian beauty" to be any different?

Already posted this in the other thread, but for those that didn't see... From the "Music Behind the Magic" companion book:

This is more a tangent than anything else we've included. Very early on, Howard and I toyed with this song for a spoiled princess. One try and it was history. Luckily, that try was preserved on tape.

Hmm, I like Jasmine as she is in the final version.

Of course, toying with the possiblity of a spoiled princess in a comedy would be interesting.

Yeah, but if it was a minor princess. I don't think it would fly to well to make a "Disney Heroine" a spoiled brat.

But then again, we have Tinker Bell who is proudly marketed as that.

I still think CMaP sounds like something Georgette in Oliver and Company would sing.

Yeah, Tinker Bell is just a bitch though... there's no excuses about it.

Call Me a Princess would be a good song for some princess that no one really liked... I can't think of one right now... but there has to be one...

Either way, it was a well-written song, but it just didn't fit w/ Princess Jasmine in Aladdin.

I still can't believe how many posts you've made so far PrincessJas... it's amazing.

Because god knows we couldn't have an "original" princess, versus the same old boring good girl. Rolling Eyes

I can't think of any Princesses that would fit that description.

Umm... I don't consider Princess Jasmine as a "old boring good girl..." She was a revolution for the Disney Heroines. She was independent, seductive... a real women.

Without her, what could we expect of Megara, Esmerelda... or hell, even Belle?

I think Jasmine defied the limits of those princesses of Disney before her... even Ariel was less than Jasmine.

Seeing a bitchy princess/heroine in the disney collection would be a let-down... it seriously would. It's a stretch to let Tinker Bell in there, seeing how she tried to kill another person in her movie. Surprised

Hmm... I tried that once... didn't turn out well for me... still... it's awesome that you're making like 90 posts a day. I don't think I've ever seen numbers that high.

Embarassed Thanks. I guess I also owe credit to Iago and Lady AP's stupidity thread - I have joined in on their "adventures" Very Happy .

And someone like Belle wasn't a "real woman?" Great, Jasmine can use her "assets" Vanessa did the same thing in TLM. Was she a heroine? No, but I don't see a difference. Belle was argueable more of a "real woman" than Jasmine. She's certainly more mature, anyway... Jasmine would have thrown away her life's role for a chance to prove herself- I don't know how that makes anything but spoiled and stubborn, versus a noble quality.

...Right, they should all wear pink and hold birds. Because a heroine should be defined by how feminine she is. Rolling Eyes

Belle may have been more a "women" than Jasmine... but Jasmine started the whole thing. Belle also had her downfalls though... she wasn't happy with being trapped... and almost being forced into a marriage she didn't want. **and who would??? Shocked ** Jasmine was a revolution for the Disney Heroines... it's been said numerous times before. Belle was a great princess, but I don't see her surpassing Jasmine.

Umm... first of all... Jasmine doesn't wear pink *most of the time*. All the Disney Princesses are feminine, but some are tougher than others... it's not about how feminine they are... it's about how independent and strong willed they are.

And quite frankly, the birds that they hold can be shot for all I care.
